10 Negative Attitudes That Will Ruin Your Business#

1. Mind-reading#

People who attempt to read minds are not attentive. They interrupt the other person in the middle of their thought because they "know" what they will say. Then, rather than reacting to what the other person actually said, they react to their own thoughts.

Instead, practice active listening. Consider the other person's perspective and potential comments.

2. Rashness#

While actively pursuing your goals is one thing, worrying when you haven't reached them decreases your ability and likelihood to do so. This is particularly true when you depend on others because impatience may quickly develop into frustration and lead to harsh remarks that harm your professional relationships.

Instead, concentrate on the procedure. Once your goals have been established, put them aside and focus on carrying out each phase of your plan to attain them.

3. Hard-headedness#

This entails continuing to use a plan or approach after concluding (in your heart of hearts) that it is ineffective and will not be effective. You end up "throwing good money after bad" because you don't want to acknowledge that you made a mistake or that you used your resources carelessly (Note: I personally struggle with this habit every single day.)

Instead, practice letting go. Learn to embrace the process of letting go rather than just letting go of the past.

4. Fearfullness#

While it is true that "fools rush in where angels fear to tread," the real folly in business is to be afraid to step foot in an area where angel investors are looking for novel ideas. Risk-taking is a requirement for reward, and stock options are never awarded to the faint of heart.

Instead, adopt the mindset of an entrepreneur. Trust your instincts if they tell you "NO!" However, if your instinct says "yes, but I'm a little terrified," acknowledge the anxiety and go through it.

5. Antagonism#

Though they believe they are being realistic, pessimistic people actually have lousy lenses through which they view the world. Being cheery and optimistic makes you more receptive to new concepts, chances, and educational opportunities. Being pessimistic only makes you stew in your own sour juices.

Be happier at work instead of doing this. Every day, take some action to improve your working environment slightly.

6. Having too many things on the go#

It might occasionally feel daunting and busy to be an entrepreneur. Every day, you'll have to take on a variety of jobs, manage several duties, and provide fresh ideas. But if you don't concentrate on your top priorities, your efforts will be spread so thin that you won't do anything of significance.

7. Putting off developing systems and procedures#

The majority of businesses are relatively lax in the early stages of development. There are just a small number of employees working in an unremarkable setting for a small number of clients, and there aren't many rules governing procedures, conduct, or hierarchy. Making rules, systems, and processes is tedious work, but it's essential if you want to grow.

8. Taking no risks#

An essential component of successful entrepreneurship is taking risks. Risks come with starting a business, but you can't stop there. Good businesses don't thrive by taking the safe route and sticking with what they know; instead, they are always experimenting with new ideas, new services, and more effective strategies. Don't let your fear of taking risks drive you to stagnate.

9. Reacting rather than taking action#

Because it permits the occurrence of the aforementioned tragedies, this practice kills businesses. Proactive entrepreneurs are constantly on the lookout for prospective issues so they may overcome them before they ever become a problem. Reactive entrepreneurs map out a plan and manage difficulties as they arise.

10. Never taking a break#

The majority of business owners are notorious workaholics. We cannot but see progress as we continue to work. However, the value of this additional labor has a tight upper bound. Your physical and emotional health will start to suffer if you work too hard, too frequently.

These behaviors might not seem like much on their own, but when they are combined and practiced endlessly, their destructive power might prevent your business from ever taking off. The better chance you have of guiding your company to long-term success and prosperity the more proactive and committed you are in identifying these patterns and eradicating them.
